  • The San Lorenzo Church, a place for faith and sin
The S. Lorenzo Church, among the oldest in Venice, dates back to the 6th century. Renovated many times, it is a mix of fascinating mystery between legend and intimacy. Here, in 1324, Marco Polo was buried. However, its spoils have been lost, probably due to recent renovations. It is said that, in this church, a rich Benedictine convent since 1854 and deconsecrated in 1920, was the site of sin, where nuns came to have live out their love affairs. The fans of Donna Leon and her mysteries set in Venice will remember that Commissioner Guido Brunetti loved to stop and admire this church from the windows of the police headquarters.
